What is Ayurveda?
Ayur = science, veda = life. Ayurveda means the science of life and has been with us for over 5000 years. Developed by the sages of India, Ayurveda teaches us the nature of our makeup based on the five elements (ether, air, water, fire, and earth) and then, using that knowledge, allows us to make informed decisions about how we interact with nature, encouraging us to make the best choices for a healthy lifestyle.
Being born with a specific elemental makeup (body constitution or prakriti), when we deviate from our initial balance, we experience imbalance that can materialize in body, mind, and/or spirit. Ayurveda includes many different avenues to achieve balance. These may include work involving nutrition, energy, exercise, digestion, and lifestyle choices. As you gain more understanding about your personal make-up, you’ll begin to make decisions that help bring you back into balance.
Ayurveda is a very individual, personal practice. It is designed to take into account each individual’s personal body make-up. Work to achieve balance is done both with an Ayurvedic Consultant and then individually, to plan, set, and achieve goals.
