Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda?

Ayur = science, veda = life. Ayurveda means the science of life and has been with us for over 5000 years. Developed by the sages of India, Ayurveda teaches us the nature of our makeup based on the five elements (ether, air, water, fire, and earth) and then, using that knowledge, allows us to make informed decisions about how we interact with nature, encouraging us to make the best choices for a healthy lifestyle.

Being born with a specific elemental makeup (body constitution or prakriti), when we deviate from our initial balance, we experience imbalance that can materialize in body, mind, and/or spirit. Ayurveda includes many different avenues to achieve balance. These may include work involving nutrition, energy, exercise, digestion, and lifestyle choices. As you gain more understanding about your personal make-up, you’ll begin to make decisions that help bring you back into balance.

Ayurveda is a very individual, personal practice. It is designed to take into account each individual’s personal body make-up. Work to achieve balance is done both with an Ayurvedic Consultant and then individually, to plan, set, and achieve goals. If you have questions about Ayurveda, contact me or, if you’re ready to start your Ayurvedic journey, schedule an initial consultation by phone – 352.525.0247 or contact me via email.

Ayurvedic Treatments

Abhyanga Massage

Using Ayurvedic oils, this massage works on the most superficial layer of the body, stimulating the nerve endings and Marma Points. Ayurvedic massage offers gentle, therapeutic techniques that work to bring balance back to the body through a light touch that interacts with the body’s subtle energies as well as the lymphatic and myofascial systems.

Basti Treatments

Basti is the Sanskrit word for “container.” A dough basti of organic chick pea flour is created and filled with Ayurvedic oils. The basti is molded and placed over a specific region of the body for approximately 30 minutes. Traditionally, bastis are placed over the heart, the knees, the lower back, and the kidneys. Basti treatment helps reduce stress, fatigue, hormonal imbalances and adrenal fatigue.

“The great thing about Ayurveda is that its treatments always yield side benefits, not side effects.”
